I'm having my first go at buidling up a road frame, with the bits off my old bike.

I've done MTB's before, so hopefully I'll be ok once we get to the drive train, but for now, I'm wondering what fiitings should have come with the frame.

Basically, how do the brakes fit on ?

I'm moving my old 105's across, but the brake caliper itself just seems to have a bolt on the back. So what's that supposed to bolt into and is whatever-it-is supposed to have come with the brake or fork and frame ?

No doubt there'll be a few more questions as we go along (I'm not convinced I know how to get the cables in and out of the lever/shifters) but here's your starter for 10 !

There should be a "hole" on the fork and a "hole" on a "bit" attached to the seatstays.

I'd imagine if you copied how the bike you are transferring bits from is set up it should go well.

I'd also recommend getting "Zinn and the art of road bike maintance" - it should tell you everything you need to know about putting the bike together.

I've got holes - but nothing threaded - or at least the bolt on the brakes slips in an out easily.

On my old bike there was a threaded tube that went through the carbon seatstay bridge - but that's too long to use on the new one. On the fork, again there seemed to be a threaded insert that you work with a 5mm allen key on the back, but noting similar this time.

Ah I see your problem now.

You'd normally get a short threaded bolt thing with the brake calipers, and the longer threaded bit that is required for carbon bits comes with the frame/forks. But as you've got the calipers on prebuilt bike they've only given you what you need that specific bike.

I think this is what you need:

I've only guessed though - it might not be the exact length - but I think it's correct. They've got them in different lengths aswell:

Excellent that's exactly it. Looks like I need a new little jobby for the back.
