Triple Chainset woes...

I have just replaced the Chainset, front mech and shifters of my wifes bike.
Shifters are R440s ( 9 Speed flat bars) with a triple Ultegra chainset and triple mech.
All appears well, however....
when shifting down from big cog, the drive train always 'jumps' to the inner ring.
It happened tha same with her old Sora stuff, but i put it down to worn 8 speed shifters..
It indexes correctly on the way up.. but this down shift seems very severe.. and is rather perplexing me..

Any ideas please?

I'm assuming the front mech is low normal and the mech is at the right height above the chainrings and parallel to them.

I seems to me that you may not have the shift cable tight enough and the reason for that may be the top adjuster screw isn't allowing the mech to move out enough.

So, slacken off the top adjust screw and tighten the cable. Might work - no guarantees but it's all I can think of.

The cable is probably too slack.
