Ok got a little problem, I bought my wife a Spesh Rockhopper 2008 disc for christmas, the bike has only been ridden once round the block and has sat in our dinning room ever since,
I've been checking over the bike prior to our up and comeing outings and have noticed that the forks won't lock out.

The forks are Rock Shox Tora 302 SL's, the knob on top of the fork turns without a problem, the problem is, is that it has no effect at all, any ideas what the problem may be, Cheers.

  • I don't have the Toras, but on my revelations there is a 'gate' knob in the centre of the compression dial. This adjusts a threshold which means that a 'full lockout' the forks can spring a bit (should you so wish). If you have this on your Toras, it might be that this gate is 'wide open', so the compression adjust doesn't really have any effect. I imagine you have a manual for your forks? If not, turn the compression dial to 'lock', and then adjust the 'gate' adjuster. The gate adjuster might just be an allen key nut.

I could be completely wrong though!

I don't think the Tora has a floodgate.

Sounds like a trip to wherever you bought it to me.

sounds like the turnkey lock out is faulty.

    how was the bike stored?

    back to the shop.

Bike was stored sanding on it's wheels. also just noticed that oil is dripping from the rebound adjuster on the bottom of the fork, ( the bit where the snail and hair picture is) thought i could smell something odd.
BTW, is there any diagrams of the internals of these forks available.

Not sure whether the Tora's are the same as the Reba's with the motion-control system, but Reba's lockout still allows around 40mm of travel even with the floodgate adjusted high. If you've got low positive air pressure, then it could appear that the lockout isn't operating.

Yep, the Turnkey allows some movement when locked - and has a blow off valve, so hit a bump and it will react fully.
