Why the hell is this *only* on BBC scotland??

I have been watching it on iplayer, and it's up there with Scott, Hilary et al for endeavour and sheer effort. I'm not amazed, though not surprised perhaps that it's not been made into something much bigger, and at least shown nationally. Soooo disappointing, eh?

Still, makes me smile when every other video diary sign off is with the words must get the miles in.....

It is a really great set of documentaries. Such a nice bloke with it. Often, extreme sports people and adventurers seem to be dysfunctional ego-maniacs or visibly have a screw loose. In this case, he just seems like a good bloke on a bike (albeit with no sense of proportion when it comes to nipping out for a ride!).

Surely, they will repeat it on BBC 4. It's not as if it is peculiarly Scottish, like Rab Nesbitt, Chewing the Fat, Still Game and Sportscene, where there is a strong risk that southern audiences might be unable to understand what is going on.

As for the low key nature of the publicity for the achievement itself, that is hardly surprising. Even when the BBC got two of their own household names (Shearer and Chiles) on bikes, they managed to trivialise their efforts on primetime TV with a lame comment about riding through red lights.

I really enjoyed the last two episodes, as i missed the first two.

I loved how he was down to earth and just generally seemed like a normal bloke. Though, some of the filming was incredible saying he did it himself.

Anyone think he's done enough base miles to start doing some interval work? :D
  • The leg across Oz looked an absolute killer, physically and mentally. I dont think the 90 mile straight would be remotely attractive even if you flew in just to ride that section with fresh legs and a caravan support team behind you!

Absolutely agree with what everyone has been saying, great programme and he seems like a great guy.

However, you knid of get the feeling that not an awful lot of planning was done, cycling through the Muslim world during Ramadan, and South Asia during the monsoon season. Not massively clever.
