Another Brit to go alongside Cummings and Thomas at Barloworld...well ok he's been there since the start of the since, but he's only just become a British licence holder. Ladies and Gentleman, I give you Chris Froome.

Bit of a longer article on it in the actual paper version of CW.

Supposed to be one of the best African riders around at the moment. Quite a good climber, he's won a stage at the Giro delle Regioni and at the Tour of Japan, plus a silver in the 'B Worlds' TT last year. Am sure he's done well in the Giro del Capo in previous years too. Anyway, adds a different dimension to the other Brits riding professionally on the continent.

Hmm, how does that work then? I thought you had to change your citizenship, not just your license, to change teams for the Worlds or Olympics.

Rebellin wanted to ride for Argentina, remember, but was refused because... well, he ain't Argentinean. Jan Ullrich too always rode with a Swiss license, but he was still German. Unlike Steffen Wesemann, who was German but took Swiss citizenship and now rides for Switzerland.

According to the CW article he already holds a British passport.
  • Well he's already got the British passport. Not sure but I guess a parent may be British.

Not sure how having competed for Kenya affects his eligibility to race for GB? Cycling doesn't have the rules like FIFA/UEFA about once you've competed in an official full international that's it, does it?

Ah, I didn't notice the bit about the passport. Fair enough then.
  • Good news for British cycling. He'll be a useful addition to the British squad if we get 5 riders for the worlds like last year.
