Morning All
Hope y'all cool and groovy
As the rather lengthy topic title says I'm having a problem removing my chain stay, I'm having it resprayed due to excessive paint chipping.
I've undone the bolts where it joins the seat stay however am having trouble with the main bolt just behind the bottom bracket area. There is a small bolt on the left hand side which you can unscrew and remove however I cant seem to shift the one on the right :?
On closer inspection the bolt on the right has a threaded sleeve which the bolt from the left screws into. I have tried to keep the one on the left "locked" in place with an alan key while trying to undo the right but only succeed in spinning round which is now proving to be somewhat vexing and I after two hours of tinkering I'm no nearer to sorting this then when I started.
Any help advice much appreciated as Im stumped

Can't speak from experience, but chances are that either a) the two halves are mated with a very fine pitch thread, and/or b) they've been assembled with threadlocker.
Either of these situations will make it very difficult to "crack" the thread (fine pitch threads lock together more securely than a normal or coarse pitch).
You need to make sure that you have enough leverage on your tools, but at the same time don't round off/out the heads of the screws or else you'll be knackered for putting it back together.
Ask someone to help you by holding one side still while you concentrate on the other side. You may well be surprised at how much effort you have to put into it!0 -
Had given it a go with a mate today but without much success. I dont want to give it too much oomph for the above reasons. Well that and I building it for my partner and she'd kill me if i broke it lol.
I've got to take it to my lbs to get the BB shell and head tubed faced so will ask them if they can crack it for me. Seems the safest bet for the frame and for me
Cheers for your help Dave0
