Tesco Track Pump - Is it any good?
Hi
Since joining this forum I've been spending a few pounds on various accessories that have been recommended.
I would now like to buy a track pump. Is there any reason not to buy a Tesco's Track Pump for £10?. Some people seem to be pleased with it but I was wondering if there was a track pump that didn't cost that much more which was much better.
Thanks for any replies.

Not much experience of other brands of track pump, but I just bought a Tesco one and it seems fine for me, much better than the Lildl one I was looking at the other day.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Botg high quality brands in the bike world.
A £10 pump will perform like a £10 pump. Badly.
Go spend £20 or £30 on a decent one from the likes of SKS or Silca0 -
I have the tesco one, and it has been great. I don't regret buying it at all.0

I don't know if you have bought a Tesco pump or not but I suspect you haven't. Don't dissmiss something just because its cheap. I love quality products as much as the next man but I refuse to become a label snob. I worked for 20 years in the fashion industry and I saw enough of it to make me sick of the fawning over the big branded labels.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

You beat me to it, markos - I wouldn't expect it to be as good as an SKS or a Silca, but I'd expect it to be much better than would otherwise be implied by the price, given Tesco has much less in the way of other costs to cover (shorter supply chain, less relatively spent on marketing) than other suppliers. I only really wanted to add that Mr Forum Expert is living up to his name as usual (I mean come on, with a name like that the warning bells really should be ringing every time you read something he's posted )0

it looks INCREDIBLY like the Blackburn branded pump I have at home that I paid £20 for - the valve, the gauge - the lot - like it fell out of the same factory in fact
and I like the Blackburn - it is a good pump which I have had for two years and has no problems getting up to 130psi - at a tenner it is a bargain0 -
Out of interest are these available in most Tesco stores or only Tesco Extra? gkerr4- do you have a link to a picture of what it looks like (e.g. is it like an Airtower 1?) My current track pump works absolutely fine as a pump (albeit only with a Presta-Schrader adapter) but the gauge is crap.0

whoops - sorry - my mistake - my pump is a trufo maxtrax - not a blackburn at all
it's this one:

the tesco one is very very similar and yes - it is a tesco 'extra' that I have seen it in.0 -

Richard - you have harvested a whole field of opinion - hopefully most have been helpful?
Whatever you spend - I don't decry the 'Tesco' offer @ £10 - more to the point, a good pressure guage is a must - under inflated tyres wear out more quickly - thus, spending a wee bit more on a track pump to get the tyre inflated to the recommended tyre manufacturer's pressure has got to mean saving in the long run.

I bought the Lidl pump two weeks ago, and I looked at the £10 tesco pump today. Th eTesco pump is much more robust than the Lidl.
However the Lidl pump works great, can't go wrong for £5.0 -
A track pump is not just for Xmas it's for life. So i'd say get one that will last and you can get spares for. The tube will perish eventually, the valve gets stood on or breaks, the seal is quite a high wear item. A cheap one will end up in land fill eventually, 10 years later your good brand one is still going strong and has had parts replaced when necessary. No choice in my opinion.0
