Campagnolo 9 - speed compatibility problems

i have just replaced the cassetet and chain on my Bianchi with a 9-speed mirage cassette and a 9-speed C9 record chain. this seems to be the only 9-speed chain that i can still buy new.
when i try riding the bike, the transmission seems silky smooth as you would expect with a new chain and cassette, but when you apply any significant power, the chain/cassette seems to creak and make strange noise as if the chain is incompatible with the cassette. it doesn't sli[p or jump in any way - just strange sounds.
i have tried the obvious things like undoing the cassette and making sure the sprocket spacers are greased and the cassette lockring is tight - so there is no reason to suspect the cassette. wheels are campag scirocco.
- i thought that 9 speed chains should work on all 9 speed cassettes.. Any siggestions about a cure or insight as to whether there is a compatibility issue between the mirage 9 cassette and record 'C9' chain ?

The only thing that matters with a chain is that it is not too wide for whatever speed system you are using, so that is not the issue. I would look elsewhere for the creak, it could be the bottom bracket or the cranks, but there are so many areas on a bike which can creak, rattle and click it is difficult to know where to start.0

Might help:

just out of interest as I am a big Bianchi fan, what frame is it?0 -
To answer the questions-
it's a Bianchi gold race in yellow
the bottom bracket and chainset haven't been changed and have never creaked - I just cleaned them and replaced the cassette and chain. the chainset is veloce and chainrings are in good condition so i doubt the problem is there.
all that I have changed is the cassette and chain and now suddenly i have creaking.
i will try some extra lubrication as per the link provided but it doesn't sound like the chain is too dry . it sounds like a mechanical problem.
