Hi,

I have the front Pro II hub and have a bit of play in the front spacers.

I have the 20mm Maxle version and the spacers on each side of the hub have a lot of movement, so much that if i rock the bike back and forward with the front brake held on there is movement. At first i thought it was coming from my headset but it is not.

Also if i have the front brake held on and i grab the top of the front tyre and rock it side to side there is a couple of mm's movement.

Is this normal?

How old is the hub? If its all put together coreectly, could be the bearings that have gone.

The hubs only 8 months old !

The spacers (black bits that sit either side of the actual hub body) move up and down, forward and back and this is whats causing the problems.

Do you have a pro II hub that you could check to see if this is as they are designed?

I cant believe that this is normal?

from what you are saying either the maxel is not tight or the bearings are shot.

the 20mm cups are a lose fit in the hub.

Tightened down the maxle again and there is only fractional side to side movement now. I will just run with that.

    Thank you.

my rear pro 2 had knackered bearings after only 8/9 months. only on one side though. there was no movement, but it squeaked an awful lot. have them replaced. only cost me 24 quid.

bearings are not normally covered as they are a part that wear.

Definitely the bearings. Just replaced mine about 3 weeks ago. £7.50 all in from my local bearing dealer and 5 minutes work to knock the old ones out and the new ones in!

Mine lasted about 2 years - oddly though it was only one side that went.

I think that you'll be lucky getting them replaced under warranty - if they'd gone after a week you would probably have succeeded but after 8 months, it's unlikely.

Sorry to say this at this stage, but don't ever buy cartridge bearings from your LBS. You'll pay about 3 times what you would from a bearing factor - look under "bearings" in Yellow Pages, most large towns have one.

Guys i gotta bump this one again, this ones really bugging me....

I've got the hope pro II front hub secured with a 20mm RockShox Maxle into some 454 dual air pikes.

The Maxle is done up supertight, I've trued the wheel perfectly, the spokes are tight, the bearings in the hub are super smooth - BUT if i grab the top of the front rim and rock it side to side there are a couple of mm's play. Also if I rock it forward and back it does the same???

Anyone have any ideas? It just seems to totally defeat the point of having a stiff front fork.

Incidentally I did have a big fall off a jump which was quite hard, im not sure if it did this before the fall or not...? I cant see any damage from the jump and ive had it apart countless times... Any suggestions?

Hate to say I told you so but...

It was the disc-side bearing in mine that had gone too - probably due to the fact that it gets more load from the braking forces.
