Hi.
I was out last weekend and the weather was all over the place. Was raining when i set off, blue skys the next minute, raining again and then blue skys. I wore my Altura Altitude Jacket which is fairly thick and when the sun was out i was dripping in sweat thus slowing me down. I had to take it off and try and squeeze it into my back pack which was then uncomfy on my back.
Im after a thin jacket/jersey that is windproof and at least a bit waterproof that i can wear when its a bit warm but raining or take off and pack away without taking up too much space in my back pac.
Help appreciated.

I have just done quite a bit of research on waterproofs, and was looking for something light and breathable as possible.I ended up getting the Gill Prospeed jacket from wiggle for £75.
Not tried it in anger yet,but the fit is great.
Have a look at the review here:http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/clothing/jackets/product/pro-speed-10765
If ultimate waterproof peformance,is not so critical, and you just want something light, that you can stow easily, have a look at the Montane,showerpoof/windproof jackets for about £30-40.2006 Giant XTC

How about the montane gear? However I'd steer clear of the Entrant DT fabric stuff if good breathability is also a requirement. Pertex is windproof and water resistant and dries quickly - just a thought......www.practicalcycles.com

The Spiderman - How waterproof is the Gill Prospeed? I live in Sydney where when it rains it rains hard. I don't bother with a jacket for most of the year as the rain is warm so I just get wet but in winter I need a lightweight jacket that can keep out more than just a bit of drizzle.0

Its made from Event fabric so should be about as waterproof as you can get.Not tried it in anger yet,but all the reviews are very favourable, and its certainly intended that you can use it in all conditions.
I posted a few questions on other mtb forums about choce of jackets, and I partly based my buying decision on the favourable feedback, from all who had the Pro speed.2006 Giant XTC

The Gill Pro Speed is a superb Jacket and very waterproof. I've done 5+ hours in the rain in it and been happy with it's performance. It's also very breathable for a waterproof jacket.
Having said that, it's a bit warm for Spring and certainly too warm for summer. Also, it's quite bulky and doesn't fold down very well. In order to not get too hot, you are going to have to not worry so much about the waterproofness and go for something which is perhaps a bit shower resistant but keeps the wind out.
I'm currently getting good use out of a Windstopper jacket and when finally warms up properly I'll be taking a Gillet with me as these really keep the wind out and fold up small.
I don't really think there is such a thing as a totally waterproof spring/summer jacket. eVent is probably the best fabric and the Gill Pro Speed very minimal, but it's still too much for Spring..0 -
I have a £20 Decathlon gilet, for summer use,so the Gill jacket means I`m equipped for all seasons!2006 Giant XTC
