Home Maintenance...
Hi Gang
Having taken my new bike back to my LBS (about 20 miles away) half-a-dozen times in just two months to get various things sorted, I am now determined to learn to fix things and keep things in good working order myself.
I have my copy of Zinn at the ready. Sheldon Brown, the Park Tools website and BikeTutor.com are all bookmarked.
What jobs should I try for starters and which should I avoid until I'm a bit handier with the spanners?
What besides cleaning and lubing the chain and sprockets are the regular maintenance tasks?
Should I have a maintenance schedule (e.g. clean and lube chain 2x month, tune up gears 1x month etc?).
Thanks in advance!

I do the stuff when they need doing (normally anyway - my commuting bike hasn't seen a wash in over 2 months and the drivetrain is black, my good bike is sparkling though).
You should be able to tell when stuff needs doing. Depending on how much you use the bike between washes I'd probably clean the drivetrain while I'm at it.0
