Hi all, just a quicky,I'm looking for a new stem and came across the Easton range, can anyone tell me if it's ok to use this road stem
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=11559
It looks exactly the same as the mountain bike version and it's available in the same sizes.
Unfortunately chain reaction don't do the mountain bike version in the colours pictured in that link, so will this stem be ok to use...Cheers.

Are your bars oversized? Otherwise mountain bike and road bike bars are slightly different widths. Also, you will be using the stem outside of what it's designed (or at the very least marketed) to do, so you will be taking a risk and will probably have no come back if something happens. Having said that, it would probably be fine - but do you really want to risk such a critical item for the sake of a few quid?0

What's wrong with the Ritchey one that's on your bike currently?2011 Yeti ASR5 carbon: http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/5817307/

you may want to wait for the easton 4-bolt "08" range as they look rather tasty, dunno when they're gonna get them in though?0

this looks like the 08 range i think, dunno why they're in the road section though?

i've never managed to get the online ordering from evans to work, always says after inputing card details "expected 0 got 16 numbers" weird.0 -
Well this one is advetised as a MTB/ROAD stem, Hmmmmmmm so whats the difference.

Clamp size can be different (ie diameter of bars). Some roadies are 25.9, rather than 25.4 (or 31.8 ) of MTBs.0
-
My MTB is 31.8, those stems both come in 31.8 wether it be for road or mtb,.............I must be missing something. (scratches head)0

It does a 26.0 size for roadies (ie the 25.9 +/- 0.1mm). But as you know yours is 31.8, then that is the one to get.0

LOL yeah but is there any difference between road and mtb, if i bought a 31.8, 1 1/8, 90mm road stem would there be any difference between a mtb stem with the same measurements, wether it be from a safety point of view, looks as in will the mtb one be chunkier for durabilty and so on, i just can't understand why they are advertised as one or the other,
It's been a long 10 days on earlys lol, so bare with me. :roll:0 -
Not really. But you wont see any DH weight and strength roadie stems lol. XC stems and Roadie stems are pretty similar.0

Consider one of these:

I have one, weighs a scant 126g! And tough too. Very well made.0
