Hi All

I've managed to knacker my rear Aksium Rim, I'd rather just replace the Rim rather than shell out for a new wheel. Where can I get a replacement Rim, are any of the deep Mavic rims compatable. All responses gratefully recieved.

Cheers

Even if you could source a rim in the forseeable future I would be willing to bet it would be almost as cheap to buy a new wheel, especially if you have to factor in rebuilding costs. I am satisfied with my Aksiums, but I am well aware that when they wear out they are a throw away item for all practical purposes.

And before anybody starts, I know all about hanbuilts and have even built my own but I still reckon budget factory wheels are good value for money.

What a strange second paragraph to follow the first. Good value to buy maybe, but they don't look such good value when they need repairing.

Well the best price I can find for a Aksium rear wheel is £74, the other option of using a DT rim seems expensive aswell.

I've had quite a few problems with this wheel, when I broke a spoke I contacted the shop and they said I'd have to buy a box of 10 as they wouldn't sell me one. Used the wheel for about a year and then cracks started appearing in the rim close to the spoke nipple, now its failed.

How long does mavic guarantee its wheels for, I've checked the wheel and the rim has lots of little cracks around the eyelets where the spoke goes into the rim. I've had these for 18 months.

There is a good chance it is two years; a lot of continental companies interpret that EU directive as providing a legal right to a minimum two year warranty (without getting into the technicalities of what it actually means.) Probably best check with who you bought them from, or contact Mavic directly.
