Whats people thoughts on Trek as a make, i was thinkin of gettin a Heckler frame until the guy in the shop told me about the pit falls of my own build and showed me the new Remedy he had orded and advised me this would be just as good for what i was looking at spending (around 1500 at time of buying frame with components) and i would get a full new bike. I have read very little about the bike but it does look nice. Any feedback would be great.

TREK are great bikes been riding them for years i have demode a few other makes just to see what they are like but for me trek is one currently got an 07 top fuel 8 as i do alot of XC and its never let me down for bringing a big smile to my face i've also been looking at the new remedy for trail centres etc as the top fuel is not really made for hammering off big drops although its super responsive and quick on 'man made singletrack ':twisted:0

I've no ideal about the Remedy, other than I've heard it's a good bike. Might well be a better bet for you than a Heckler, but I'm curious what the pitfalls of an own build actually are? The only thing is you get a far better bargin if you buy the whole bike.0

Cheers guys all very helpful to my confidence in Trek, as for the pitfalls what i meant was price pretty much as an initial cost over buying a full bike and slowly upgrading or selling parts to go towards the ones I want whilst still having a full bike in the mean time. If any of that makes sense.

I personaly like trek bikes. Never had any problems with them. I saw a chap with a remedy the other weekend. it looked tasty as hell. was light too. Id have one!Eagles may fly high but Weasels dont get sucked into jet engines.

I CANT WAIT!!!0 -
They do look sexy bikes must say. But be careful on what frame you chose and what you
want to do with it Has it seems that the Trek frames have different grades of
Aluminium for the price of bike you buy.
I dont understand why. But Trek do this with there race bikes and Carbon frames too.
Has normally a manufacture would sell three bikes each with the same frame but with
different spec components.0 -
The Remedys are all the same frame to the best of my knowledge, pretty much the full mid-high spec alloy Trek range is the Alpha Red stuff, basically just a normal aluminium rebranded, much as Specialized do A1, M4 and M5 at the moment.
Just a marketing thing really, the hydroforming on the tubes makes more difference than the tag line they attach
Their carbon frames are good though, the OCLV stuff was just made to be very dense, getting rid of imperfections. Not sure how they're doing now, I spent a lot of my younger days wanting a 9800 carbon jobby, 10 years ago or so0 -
Have a look on MTBR, there are probably user reviews from US owners on there already.
I can certainly see the bike-shop guy's logic. See if he'll let you go for a ride on his when it arrives, if it fits you?0 -

Who's the dealer? I'm curious because the list price of the Remedy 7 is £1800. Also, don't forget that the guy is trying to flog his new stock, so if you go asking him for a Heckler, he's bound to say, "nah, you don't want one of them, you want a Remedy!".
I've nothing against Trek, in fact I'm seriously considering a Remedy to replace my VT2 later this year, but I am dubious about the lines that the dealer's feeding you...0 -
I have a Fuel EX9 and it's a cracking bike (Remedy was available at the time otherwise I would have considered it)
One thing worth pointing out about Trek is there warranty is superb! I had a few crack in the paint and the replaced the frame no questions (got a new shock too)
I wasn't a massive fan of the Bontrager wheels as they're a little flexy for me but the Remedy's has a more all mountian affair so that should solve that. I did have to replace the stem as it was too long as it always is on Treks....other than that no problems!0 -
Geordiepaul How did you crack the frame. What was you riding on ?0
