Specialized RockHopper

Hi all,
Looking for a bit of advice on a new purchase, as my Spesh Hardrock with Tora forks has recently been stolen after our garage got broken into.
I was looking at the Boardman range of bikes, but after going to my local shop I dismissed that idea pretty quickly
I'm now looking at the Specialized RockHopper range, in particular the Comp Disc version, for £749. It seems to have everything I'm looking for in a bike, and is from a well known and reliable manufacturer.
Does anyone have/has used one of the 08 versions of this bike, as I would like a bit of advice from here, before commiting myself. The shop didnt have it in stock, but could get it in if I wanted it, and will let me test ride it first, but any advice here would be great.
Thanks
James

I test rode one on the weekend and enjoyed it.
I was mainly there to determine whether I wanted a 17" or a 19".
I think the best advice would be to ask your shop to get it in for you, and have a test ride. (if it really is no obligation to purchase after they order it in)
Do you know what size you want to try? If not, may be worth going to a LBS that has a few different sizes in stock.0 -
i have the 08 disc version, and i have to say the frame is the best thing about it, its so nice to ride. it feel like it flexes when you ride but in a good way. solid components and specalized are really good if you brake your frame like i did. i would say you wont be dissapointed.Specailized Enduro 08 - Beast

Well I went to my LBS today, and they have ordered me one in, should be here in next couple of days (hopefully tomorrow!)
I'll test it out before buying it obviously, to check it is all OK, and fits me.
We had a discussion about frame sizes, because my Hardrock was a 19", but the RockHopper is a slightly bigger bike, but we decided to try it in the 19", so thats whats I will be trying.
Thanks for all the comments.0 -
I have the 07 which has the same frame - but doesnt have the 29 inch wheels (and its only the disk, not the disk comp or pro).
Really like the bike, although it annoyed me for the first year with badly aligned brakes and rubbing disk brakes - although thats probably becuase the LBS I got it from were cack.
The bike has been hammered over time and seems to be standing upto it very well.
I am 6ft and chose a 19" frame and its pretty comfy (did 35 hilly road miles the other day and it was fine).
