I seem to remember last time I did this in circa May 1991, I didnt have to remove the chain in order to change the front (big) ring. I'vce just ordered 2 new front rings and by looking at it (FSA carbon chainset) it looks like I should be ok, but am I? I only ask as I dont have a chain link remover, so it would mean the difference between a 5 minute job in the conservatory, or a trip to the LBS....

Provided the chain's OK and you make sure you thread it through the front mech properly you won't need to remove it. You won't need to remove it even if you get it jammed somehow - you'll just have to remove and refit the chain ring.
GeoffOld cyclists never die; they just fit smaller chainrings ... and pedal faster0 -
