Out of interest which dhb ones did you try? I have both the Earnley (light) and the Merston (heavy) and there is a big difference. The Earnley ones are a lot lighter and cooler, exceedingly comfortable in the right weather but have developed a few holes. The Merston ones are a _lot_ heavier and warmer, there is no comparison. Haven't gone really long distance or really cold but certainly up to 50km - below 0 - with up to 80 km/h winds (not necessarily all at the same time, but windchill some days would certainly have been _well_ below zero.)

it was the dhb Merston Bib Tight, problem with them is i ended up like brass monkey. sure its a very comfortable bib tight but its not exactly windproof.

Craft do undershorts with a windproof front called Gunde, after a famous Swedish long distance skier!
Should help keep your brass monkey warmer.

I don't think the dhbs are supposed to be a winter tight are they? Like everything you get what you pay for.

If you want something warm for the winter you could try the likes of Castelli, Pearl Izumi or even Assos, but that could be out of your budget. Campagnolo or De Marchi have some nice offerings also.

the quote "It is cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey" well thats the feeling i got from dhb merston, i guess "thermo-stretch" isnt great for when its real windy. anyways does the uk have those craft gunde undershorts if so do you have a link, i prefer not to buy from usa & ill never own a credit card.
i kinda have my heart set on either gore proteam action3 or altura reflex altho there is the Castelli Gregario at only £70 at wiggle, assos definitely are far too expensive for me

I have the Altura Reflex bib tights and am pretty happy with them. I chose them over the De Marchi Contour Plus tights as the fit was slightly better. There's no denying they're warm and I like the reflextive stips on the calves but occasionally on the bike I find myself pulling up the crotch so it's more snug around the hoo haas. I found the De Marchi too baggy around the knees and ankles. I also got the Reflex shoe covers to match 8)
