Start my commute on Monday... wish me luck
5 miles each way, 1 mile down hill on the way to work , up hill for the last mile on the way home
Will be doing it on a mtb to start, see how it goes, them might get road bike. Going tommorow to buy a saddle bag and some tools (tyre leavers etc). Buying a small day sack to keep trousers and smellies in as not to fork out on panniers at the moment. Going out sat and sun to built up my stamina. Hoping and allowing to get there in 40 minutes to begin with

The best of luck, but I'm sure it'll be great fun once you get used to it. I started my seven mile commute on a heavy hybrid last July after years of barely riding a bike and was soon wishing it was a bit longer on lovely sunny summer mornings. Then I got a road bike and all hell broke loose, with spectacular detours through the countryside and up and down hills. I find a comfy rucksack more convenient than panniers or a rack bag as it's attached to you and not the bike, but it depends if you can get a shower at work or not.
I've also found a spare drawer for stinky cycle clothes - nobody's complained yet.

Well , went this morning to Halfords to buy new pads for the rear v brakes. £6.99.
Trip to Argos to buy bike accesory pack £12. Well fitted the cage and bottle, pump sorted. Quick lube of chain, check tyre pressures.
Well done the trip to workish, and back. Did'nt go that bad. Doing the same tommorowDawes Audex Clubman 2012.

Good luck Welsh one. I started about 5 weeks ago now and wish I had started years ago. You won't regret it.0

Great to hear someone else in Wales on this forum. Good luck on your commuting, I've been doing it now for about 5 months, and built up to 11miles each way, and like others keep saying, I wish I'd done it years ago.k.curtis0

Seriously, commuting's a great way to start the day and get rid of any work-stress on the way back. I miss my commute.

Enjoy it buddy I started back in august and have probably had a week of sun in total since starting.
Had to take public transport today (bike was on my table in pieces) and totally hate it. i AGREE with all that doing the commute morning and night is a no brainer way of not only getting fit (lost 4.5 stone so far) but amazing way to blow out the cobwebs and forget a few stresses. Keep it up its worth it and personally I am looking forward to some summer warmer weather action (the cold has been a bit brutal in shorts!!!!)0 -
Only problem i'm getting so far is my " arse ". After 10 mins, it hurts soooo muchhh. Weather was cracking this morning.
Getting a bit tired too, but sleeping better through the night Walked up the big hill last night. But all in all, i'm getting there :roll:Dawes Audex Clubman 2012.
