Look Keo Sprint or Time RXS ?
I'm looking to buy some new pedals. I have decided to either go for the Look Keo sprint or Time RXS but can't decide on which! Any advice, opinions or experiences of the pedals would be great.
p.s. how much difference does having a low stack height make?

i have just bought the really entry level time Xen pedals (which uses the same cleat as the RSX and are a new for 2008 entry level pedal) to try them. They seem rather low quality but then they were only £30 so I can't speak for the twice-the-price RXSs
They are a bit tough to clip into compared to the SPD-SL's that I had before, but I have only had one ride on them so perhaps this will improve.
Overall I am very impressed - i wanted to switch becuase I have a dicky knee and the time pedals are the only ones wth lateral float as well as angular.
once clipped in they are very comfy - you forget you are clipped in but they are very secure.

I have some Keo Classic's (essentially the same as sprint) - excellent value at £35 and very durable.0

Go for Time. Having also tried look and shimano, I would not choose anything else. They work great and the float makes it easier on your knees.0

The Sprints can have a higher retention spring tension setting. I have both Classics and Sprints and I have to set the tension to max on the Classics, but I could still do with a tiny fraction more.
The Keo design is very good though - I find them much easier to clip into than Shimano SL which I also tried when I started using road pedals. If you use cleat covers when walking off the bike the cleats last well - I'm at over a year on my current set and there's life left in them yet.

The answer really is to buy the cheapest model (RXE or classic) as cheap as you can - or better still borrow a pair from a mate's winter bike to see how you get on with either. I tried time over the autumn and, contrary to what most find, the nature of the float gave me terrible knee pain (though I have a 20+ year history of knee surgery). Now on keo - the cheap classics on the winter bike, sprints on the summer / race bike, and they are great.
Sorry if that muddies the waters, but it's what I found.......0 -
