I'm going to need a compact road pump and 1 or 2 bottle cages. Any suggestions? Do I also need some kind of saddle bag to keep a spare tube and levers in? It's just good to go into the shop with something to aim at.

yes, you need a little saddle bag for your front door key, spare inner tube, tyre levers etc.

That's all. Resist the temptation to strap every gizmo to your bike. Travel light!
  • I have a spesh mini wedge saddle bag. I would argue if you need anything bigger than that then your probably carrying to much.

A Topeak Micro Rocket helps to keep your load compact and bijoux.
They work too: mine got me home yesterday when I had a p*n*t*r*
    on my fixed commuter.

I've got a little saddle bag on my road bike that I pack with a pump, tubes, tyre lever & multi tool. Sometimes I just stuff these things in my jersey pockets [I think some people think this is dangerous though?]
