Colnago CLX
Anyone got one of these?
If so what are they like?
I am looking to build up a bike and my budget would allow a CLX frame with a Chorus/Record mix.
Are there any other frames that I should consider around the £1500.00 mark.
Cheers all

Personally, if you want to buy a Colnago I'd be more inclined to get a real Italian offering rather than their made in Taiwan for the masses version.
There's plenty of good frames out there - light and stiff for £1500 - Scott, Specialized, Storck it just depends why you've singled out the CLX above the rest for the type of riding you do.

there's a few good frames around 1500-1600-1700. How about a Cervelo RS, Cyfac Cadence, Look 585 Optimum, Time VXRS ?0

Go with your instinct and get a Colnago. It'll ride like a dream and it'll look the mutt's nuts.0

I mostly just ride, I am planning to do some crits later on this year, but I want a bike that I will enjoy riding and looks good and there are certain makes that just appeal to me.
I do like Look's, Cervelo's and Time frames as well, but Colnago looks the business and is in budget, whereas the others are a little out of my price range.
What ever I buy will have to last me as it will be the last bike I buy for a few years.Obsessed is a word used by the lazy to describe the dedicated!0 -

The thing that put me off it was the aero seattube/post0

Cervelo RS - Mmm
or the S-Works Roubaix like I have0 -
I bought a CLX last year. Fantastic ride, very stiff, beatiful to look at,
Two problems though.
1. The supplied Prologo Choice saddle was too hard and caused painful sit bones after 40+miles. Went and swapped the top for the Choice gel saddle and now very comfy.
2. It is now on its 4th, (yes 4th) Aero seatpost as the top laquer coat came away from the carbon where clamped by the seatpost. Torque wrench always used to clamp seatpost so not over or under tightened. After Windwave replace the post twice, the frame went to Italy to be checked. I have been told that Colnago have done something to the seat clamp although it looks the same to me (from the pictures I've seen the 2008 model has a different seatpost clamp to the 2007 model though)
Still love the bike though and found it a great sportive bike last year. I haven't taken it out this year after rebuilding it in January ..still waiting for the spring,... so I don't know if the seatpost issue has been sorted for good or not. Windwave say I am the only person to have had this problem!0 -
I'd say its well worth looking at a Look 585. I picked up an 07 frameset for £1499 from JE James last month and it gets better with every ride. I just love it.

Its a beautiful looking bike. When I first saw a 2008 CLX in white it instigated my desire for an aesthetic yet functional carbon-fibre bike.
I've since opted to go down the Wilier Izoard route in the Italian designed, made in Taiwan market as I fancied trying Campag for my second road bike and was astounded that you couldn't get a CLX with Campagnolo.
I think the only other Colnago in my price range (for a full build) was that Master Light thing and while I'm a complete novice, that looks like somehting to hang on the wall rather than ride.0 -
Each to their own but I've never liked the look of the clx. Those outwards curving seat stays put me off. Makes it look like a dog taking a dump.0

Trek 5.2. Frame only £1400. The stiffest, best handling and comfortable bike I have ever riden. And it only says Trek on it twice as well, a big improvement on some of the earlier colour schemes. Seriously don't discount it because it is a Trek. They have got this one right.0

You're not the only one! I too am wating for a CLX replacement seatpost for reasons similar to those you describe...
Do I still like the bike? Yes.
Would I buy another one? Not so sure...
I don't know about cyclingvet's experience, but quoted time to get a seatpost is 5 weeks - a very long wait for such an innocuous yet necessary bit of componentry (nothing in stock, apparantly). And, as it's Colnago specific, there's no switching to anything else. Also, be warned about the price - if it's an out of warranty replacement, it'll set you back 136GBP!!!0 -
If its looks you want you could consider a Wilier Izoard/LeRoi or Orbea Orca frame. The Colnago looks nice. Yes its made in the Far East but then nearly all carbon monocoque frames are including Cevelo. The Colnago carbons that are made in Italy I think are traditional lug and tube construction.0
