On my old 105mm 'Zocchi EXRs...
After messing about with preload I've set them as hard as I can, but still wanted them a bit stiffer. So I made some 2mm thick spacers that are stacked on top of the spring and underneath the spacer that the preload cap winds down onto. Now I can compress the forks to about 50% if I really try, while the bike's stationary.
is there any danger in doing this? I know someone will say 'get some new springs, you fish', but they're 5 years old so spares will probably be tricky, and this was a more fun option
EDIT: I've done it again... this isn't the tech forum! dammit.

so what have you done.
lets look at it.
you have just made it harder to start the fork moving, the spring rate has stayed the same. and finally you may cause the coils to bind and then break.
have fun."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
