Any reason why you think you need a full sus?

So when I get more money I can buy upgrades and they are more comfortable

In that case you'll need to try and find a full-susser with a good frame and a sensible shock size to make upgrading worthwhile.

What type of riding are you intending to do? Trail/XC or the more gravity orientated stuff?

    do you mean trails/xc?
Because for trials you are going to need a very different bike from what you need for xc, and DEFINATELY not a full susser :)

i think he does mean trails surely, have a look at the specialised fsr xc, similar frame to the old stumpjumper and would be well worth an upgrade or two.

Trails and trials are very different despite being only a typo away

A trail bike is for bombing along trails.

Trials is essentially stunt work, jumping onto large obstacles, riding along very skinny bars, that type of thing.

I'd imagine it's a trail bike you want? I have a specialized FSR XC comp that seems to be a pretty good bike for general riding at trail centres and out and about in the country. I believe it costs about £900, you might be able to get one closer to £800 if you shop around/haggle.

That said, it's my first full susser so you should get plenty more opinions from more experienced riders.

Having been biking a few years now I think the most common answer to the question of a budget (£800-£1000) full susser for general mtb use (xc/trails/light AM) that I've heard is the specialized fsr xc comp - that must be good cos at every other price range people have a massively varying opinion. A good frame and cos Spesh are such a big company good kit too.

I think another option might be a Mongoose but I can't remember the details, maybe the Teocali?

Again, there are people on here with far more biking experience than me but I do think the Spesh is a good bike

Are there any other trail bikes in that price range that are worth considering?

You live very close to Merlin Cycles in Leyland so if you can get down there then they do some awesome value bikes and will be able to offer loads of advise and test rides - although they don't have specialized.
