Lighting Recommendations

After an abortive attempt on a night ride last night to work I now realise that the puny LED cheapo light on the front of my bike isn't up to the job. Quite litrally the world turned black as I left the sanctuary of my town into the wild blackness of the countryside!!
So any recommendations(non costly) for some front lights so I can tell the difference between the ditch and the centerline of the road?

For £40 your only likely to get something to help you to be visible, not for you to see where your going in a country lane.
I had a cateye el front light, ok but not enough oomp so bought a dinotte 200aa to go with it and it is very good and I can now ride up to 5 hours in the dark as it has a spre holder so I take two lots of batteries out.
I got mine from Planet x for about £63 .0 -
For £40 you can get a Fenix L2D, which is certainly plenty enough to see with - only very slightly less bright than a Joystick Maxx or a 200L. You'll only have to stretch the budget very slightly to also get some good quality rechargeables and a charger to go with it (since alkalines work very poorly in such lights).0

Can you get a mount for those Fenix L2Ds? Any info on where they are sold?
I had a BLT Ozone 9ine which did light the road although beam was relatively narrow. Lost it and looking for replacement options.0 -

I did but I was hoping more for a "I got the light together with a bike holder from X" and "the bike holder works great" or "the bike holder is a bit crap, it rattles around", etc. Thanks for the initial heads up on the torch though (and thanks for the link to that other thread Daniel B.)0
