Morning All

Hope y'all cool and groovy 8)

I've just bought a new seat post and its a little stiff going into the seat tube. I dont want to force it in and damage the finish so thought a little dab of grease may help?

I then also thought this may lead to the seat post suddenly slipping away from under me at an inopportune moment which would be bad :(

The post is the right width, 27.2mm came out. I have had the frame resprayed so thought there maybe something fouling the inside of the tube so have sanded this with some fine grain sand paper.

I have a new Hope QR clamp on which was fitted by a shop after they measured it so dont think its that.

Answers on a postcard... :)

so what is your seat post made out of?

sounds like you need to clean out your seat tube.

if it is a tight fit grease will be no good.

Its a Thomson Elite lay back. As i said I've sanded down the inside to smooth out any debris that maybe inside.

Go to a professional bike shop and have the seatube reamed. Might be an idea to mention to them to either do it upside down or take out the bb afterwards and get rid of the shrapnel.

This will give you a perfectly even surface and the seatpost shoud just pop straight in afterwards. Also the post will be held sercurely because of this.

well either you have not removed enough or something is the wrong size as a seat post should be a easy fit.

Has the clamp been over tightened with no post present?

    any grease will do.

My lbs measured the seat tube and the old tube as the size had been worn off and said it was 27.2mm which was what i ordered. I've looked on the Rocky Mountain site but it isnt mentioned in the bike spec (Slayer 50 2004)

Hmm, will get busy with the sand paper again and see if that helps, failing that will look at getting a good reaming

Well I had another go with sand paper and still couldnt get the post to fit :( so I took the frame to different shop to get them to ream the seat tube.

After explaining the situation to them about the post being measured at another shop they checked it again and it turns out its actually a 26.8mm and not a 27.2 after all

Much kudos to previous shop I think not...

Thanks for your help guys :)

  • Now you have to forgive me for asking...but with a 4mm difference, how far into the frame did you get the 27.2?
