New road bike for shortish girlfriend?

Hi everyone
I want to buy my other half a road bike for her birthday. She currently commutes into central London on a half tonne Giant mountain/hybrid thing with tractor tires and i want her to experience the whiz and handling of a decent road bike.
She used to ride road bikes when she was younger and has expressed a desire in the past for drop bars, so i'd prefer to get her a road bike rather than a hybrid. She’s approx. 5'5"
Has anyone got any ideas on what might be a good bet in the entry level £300ish price range? Any women out there particularly pleased with their current rides?
Any help greatly appreciated

girlfriend got giant scr 3 and shes only 5ft , had to wait for 48 in frame , shes very happy with it ( done nothing for her big arse thou )0

Call that short
I got all excited then, as Wifey is selling her nearly new Dolce, through Southdown bikes, for that kind of money.
But as she's proper short (4'11" and 3/4's) I doubt it will fit.0
