The instructions say the gap between the sensor on the fork and the magnet on the spokes must be 4mm or less, which is pretty close to start with but I have to have them even closer, almost touching to get it to work, the sensor is at quite an angle, is this right?

Has anyone tried a larger magnet?

something I found that had a big impact was where the sensor was on the pickup (the bit on the forks) - it is not along the full length of the edge of the sensor from what I can work out its about 10mm long (it does say where it is in the instruction book) place the magnet as near as you can to the actual sensor and itll work forever... or until the battery dies at least (maybe your battery is low some went out with dodgy batteries)
    dont knock on death\'s door.....

Ring the bell and leg it...that really pi**es him off....

Have a Polar that is very picky about sensor to receiver distance as well (if it's a wireless one). Have flipped my stem before now and caused it to stop working.

Just re-read the manual, it says the magnet/sensor should be LESS than 4mm apart, idealy the thickness of a cable tie!

Blimey thats close, my Cateye is about 25mm!
