What tubs?

Having just ordered my first pair of sprints for 30 years from Pete Matthews, I am now agonising over what tubs to fit? Will be riding short TTs (evening 10s and maybe an occasional 25). I always ride out to events (30-40 mile round trip including race), so want something that wont pu***ure at the first sight of a rough road, but also want something reasonably fast. Any suggestions?

I RR on Vittoria corsa evo cx. i have found them to be a fine race tyre. Not bad value as well as you can generally find them at around £25 per tyre.

I also have got some continental competition on another pair of wheels which i have only used a couple of times since I put them on. Bit more expensive but first impressions are pretty good.
  • Hi there.

For TTs the fastest tyres I've found are Veloflex Records.

If you've got deep pockets, Veloflex Carbons are fast and tough. I also use Tufo tubs for RRs - good handling and feel and with the sealant are pretty tough - you'll wear the tyre out rather than throw it away because of punctures.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

I'll throw in my vote for "Tufos".

i have some conti comp 22s with vectran version

they are durable and grip well / feel good.

not the fastest in terms of rolling resistance but you inevitably run into a durability/puncture resistance vs. rolling resistance trade off. if you want a reasonably quick tub that doesn't flat easily then the contis are good.

I bought some "Conti Gatorskin" tub's and am going to give them a try this summer.
    Wish me luck.
