"Planning" a first tour in 6 weeks with fit but non cyclist brother. Not entirely sure how far we'll travel a day etc...could be 30miles, could be 60!?....and don't want to book accommodation that will cramp our style. How practical is is to turn up in a town in southern Belgium or northern France and get accommodation without pre-booking??
it never gets any easier...I'm supposed to just get faster...still waiting though

If its only the cheap hostel option you are looking at you then you could easily book at least a day ahead through an internet cafe en route..using someone like Hostelworld.Com or the YHA IBN etc...Youth hostels and the like can get fiilled up with school trips so its a risk if you dont book...

Thanks, we'll probably go for 1 or 2 star hotel...little bit of pampering after hard days in the saddle?!
