Dura Ace and XTR - 10/9 Speed

Hi chaps,

this might sound a very very odd question...

I have seen you can run 10 speed shimano shifters and 9 speed block by using an alternative cable routing...

If i had...

Dura Ace 10 speed Shifers
XTR Rear mech(alternative cable routing)
9speed cassette (11-32)
10 speed chain

Would the shifting be resonable?

Currently i use an XT rear mech and a 11-32 casette with a compact, but obviouslythats not an option with 10 speed kit, and wondringif the above would work, or anyone has done it?

Like i said an odd question and not something i am likely to do,just curious... as i could switch it off my MTB if i ever needed it (triple and a 11-28 cassette should do well!)

Presume i wouldneed to change the jokey wheels on the XTR to match 10 speed?

Thanks

Why not just get a triple with a 12-27? Surely 30-27 should get you up anything.

Thats what i am likely to do :), well a 28 SRAM to be more precise :)

Just got my thinking seeing the alternative cable routing

The alternative cable routing thing might work, but it's still a botch, it's probably better to keep to things that are definitely compatible.

When you've got components of Dura Ace level, you don't want to be messing around trying to get things to work that weren't really designed to work together. Just think of how much you pay for Dura Ace shifters.....you want them working right to start with........right?

Dura Ace 9 speed would work perfectly. 10 speed is nice, but why not stick to 9 for this special case? But I am sure that an XTR rear mech would run 10 speed without undue difficulty. I have a 9 speed LX running 7 speed right now.

    You could always get a 10-speed 11-32 http://store.interlocracing.com/10elcas.html

Hmm interesting, now how well do they last though, as there not a cheap cassette, same sort of mileage as a DA cassette? (presuming same conditions)

you could try a 11-28 SRAM 10-spd cassette?

If that's compatible with your DA shifters then it will work.

The 9spd mtb mech will be fine on a 10spd cassette+chain. No need to change the jockeys.
