Specialized Roubaix variants

I've recommended this as a bike to look at for the brother in law as he want's something relatively light and comfy, but to feel a little bit more special than the Specialized Allez tank he now rides. C+ is always gushing over this bike, so it has to be on the short-list.

Now looking at the bike there seems to be loads of variations. Can someone tell me what the differences are between the Elite and the Comp versions and also what upgrades happened between 07 and 08 for both?

A key question is whether the underlying frame and fork is the same for all four models Elite 07, 08 and Comp 07,08.

All help appreciated.

Have you looked at the Spesh website? That will tell you the differences between the 08 models.

The frames are not all the same. The drivetrain and finishing kit also differs (as does the price!).

I'm afraid I can't help with the differences between the 07 and 08 ranges...

I have the (lowly) Roubaix Elite 08 and I love it!

Comp and Elite share the same frameset, both 6r Carbon.
The Elite is bottom of the range with a mix of 105 and cheaper components.
The Comp is next up with full 105.
The Expert and Pro come next, again both share the same frameset 8r Carbon.
    The Expert is Ultegra
The Pro is a mix of Dura ace and Ultegra
Finally comes the S-Works in 10r Carbon and full dura ace and S-works kit.

This is roughly the spec but if you go here:
    http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?spid=33601
You can go through the order.

I don't know how the spec has changed from last year though.

i picked up a specialized catalogue last time i was in my LBS as im looking atone, and a tarmac myself and deciding on which verson...

On the pages of the tarmac and the roubaix, it gives you the spec forthe base model, andthen each one above, it tells you the upgrades, cant seeanything like thatonline, but might be worth picking a catalogue up?

  • The 08 frames and forks are exactly the same as the 07 ones, so in answer to your key question all 4 bikes, the elite 07 & 08 and the comp 07 & 08 all share the same frame and fork.

as above the only differences between 07 and 08 were colour change - the two base models have a diferent frame design to the top three models.

the elite and comp are '6r' carbon - both '105' but the comp has 105 brakes and better wheels

the expert and pro are '8r' and have the same frame design as the s-works - with the dog-leg seat stays with zertz inserts & curvy top-tube. both ultegra but the pro has the S-works carbon chainset (mind the proprietary bottom bracket) and better wheels

the s-works is available as frame only or with D/A build and is '10r' carbon. Again the s-works frame is available with the std english thread BB or with the s-works proprietary BB to accept the s-works carbon crankset.

I have the S-works frame built up with campag centaur and Eurus Wheels - it is an amazing bike - how do they make it so stiff and responsive yet so damned comfortable??

Is the Comp the only one that doesn't look like an advert on wheels?!

I have the 08 Roubaix Expert if you want to know anything. It's a superb bike. I absolutely love riding it.
