Im limited to £1000 for my new bike through the cycle to work scheme. The TREK 1.9 looks a very nice bike. Does anyone have any thoughts/experiences with the bike?
What similar spec'd bikes are there for around £1000 (but under)?

Ive had a look but it seems like a minefield and experience and recommendations will probably sway it for me.

    I got myself a carbon Focus Cayo for £999, but i think Wiggle have put the price up.

    I know you said under a grand but add £99 to your cycle to work scheme and get a specialized roubaix good value since they reduced the price. Has a comfortable riding position and is a good carbon frame in comparison with the alloy 1.9

    Its the Halfords scheme which means I am limited to £1000. Ive been offered the;

    Boardman Team, which looks a very good bike and well spec'd,
    Carrera Vanquish, full carbon full Ultegra (dont fancy the brand really)
    Specialized Allez Elite, no thanks
    Dolan Carbon, not heard much about these
    Merida 905.com, ditto above
    Trek1.9 which looks the biz

    I really wanted the Planet x or the Cayo but they are no longer available with the scheme..........

    Dolan are in Ormskirk - Have a look on the web, Frames tend to be Dedacci, the same ones as at Ribble in Preston and have a pretty good reputation

    Worth a look and as not too far down the road you could go and visit them. I bought the Roubaix but was close to buying one from Terry Dolan

    Thanks for the info.

    Im more drawn to the groupset than I am to the carbon frame. Id prefer Ultegra to 105 which the Dolan has. My mate has a Madone and before he bought that he test rode a 1.9 and he said the ride and comfort factor was very similar. He only bought the Madone because he got an unbelievable deal.

    i'd go for the allez elite out of that lot - save a little for pedals and shoes and stuff

    with a wheel upgrade come the summer it'll be a cracking bike and very comfy riding position too
