Brake lever torque

Hi all,

Just fitted new carbon bars and whilst the manufacturer (PRO) specified the torque tensions for the stem, they don't give any for attaching the brake levers.

Anyone know what's the usual torque (in Nm) for brake levers on carbon bars?

I was thinking about 6-7 Nm?

6-8 - spot on. (I assume you have Shimano STIs given that you are using Shimano bars?)

    Although Campag are 10 Nm
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

    Cheers for that Rob.

Yes they are Shimano levers. The chart you linked doesn't specify whether those are the torque limits for carbon or alloy bars - or are the torque ranges the same for both?

The torque is relevant to the fastener more than that material you are clamping to, and I would hope that shimano handlebars are up the grip exerted by their own levers done up to the recommended torque setting. If you are in doubt, give them a call and let us know the answer..

Personally, I'd torque to 8 Nm with a torque wrench.
