Does anybody have any news on that horrific crash suffered by Ángel Gómez with 62km to go in the Tour of Flanders?

That was one of the worst crashes I have seen in a long time... Quite shocking the way the forks also snapped and the bust wheel kept going.

The poor chap didnt know what hit him... a guess its a lesson to us all that you should always keep an eye out for where you are going.

Hope he is ok

Ed.

He appears to roll as he falls so hopefully it wasn't too serious. Best crash this year!

I think I'd expect my forks to shear at 30m.p.h. into a 10" concrete kerb. They're not really designed for that kind of thing.

Well, perhaps the most avoidable accident, entirely his own fault for not looking where he was going.

There was even a copper/marshal standing in front of the thing waving a warning flag, who had to leap out of the way to avoid being ploughed into !

The prat wasn't looking where he was going and rode into the kerb of a traffic calming construction. There was even a policeman there to warn the riders, who had to jump out the rider's way at the last moment.

His own fault completely. Still doesn't make the crash pretty. He was probably so tired that he didn't keep his head up. Anyway an awful accident.

Done similar myself but faired a lot better. Riding along a road and TCs had been put in but only found out when I dode over them  , luckily I was on my MTB, front wheel not even out of true at all
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

He wasn't looking where he was going and there was a policeman with a flag but I don't think that he was blowing a whistle. Hang on, I'll just check that video...

Blimey, it didn't take long for that to be taken down due to a copyright violation!

Well I don't remember hearing a whistle and it is normally possible to on the Eurosport coverage. The need for the whistle as well as the flag was made painfully obvious...

Even if a rider does look where (s)he is going, there are plenty of cases where the rider in front swerves round an obstacle at the last moment and the following rider crashes. It happened to Roger Hammond a few years back.

I said it was his own fault...

...but then I have done the same sort of thing myself, although less disastrously.

Several years ago I went slap into the back of a parked carbecause I was too busy looking down at the road immediately in front of the wheel rather then forwards.
I saw it at the lat minute, managed to sort of jump on it, cushion the impact with my outstretched arms, then fall over.
No damage to bike or car, I got the odd bruise.
My ego was most damaged, particularly as I did it outside a hotel and the doorman saw it all and thought it was hilarious...

Watching a recording of the Premier Calendar from a couple of weeks ago, there was quite a spectacular crash between Dale Appleby and Matt Higgins. Bikes cartwheeleed and Appleby broke his collar bone, looked like it could've been worse.

Any place other than YouTube? My copy of the Ronde coverage hasn't finished... erm... arriving, yet.

Not sure if you can get Eurosport in Canada, but they're showing highlights again tonight.

No you can't. Basically, if it's in any way, shape or form related to pro cycling, you can't get it in Canada. You can download the recordings Europeans made of the Eurosport coverage, though.

Anyone know what time? Couldn't see it in the listings.

Not a happy bunny when I sat down to watch the whole of Sunday afternoon's Eurosport on Sky+ and all I got was the last 20km recorded highlights with 15-5km missing (including the Bosberg  ).

Chances are that any highlights will be the same as the programme that they showed on Sunday anyway.
    Take care,

    Steve.

Sorry missed this last night. Wasn't sure of the time, but it was showing up on the listings on Virgin when I looked through.

According to this you can get 75 mins of highlights tomorrow before Gent- Wevelgem coverage starts.

If it's the same highlights shown on Sunday night they were a vast impovement on the Sunday afternoon coverage.

Mine will be with me in about 50 minutes. Hope it's in English.

And 2 fingers to cycling.tv for taking it off Youtube, tossers.
