Hi I'm going to be selling my Trek 2300 58cm, when my new bike arrives. I haven't got a clue what i should be expecting for it. It's in immaculate condition and has full 9 speed ultera group set...........Bontrager racelites....

I haven't ever seen any for sale on ebay so if anyone has got any ideas what i should be asking please could you reply
Cheers

Roughly half what you paid new, or half what it costs now if it is still available, maybe a bit more if the bike is in demand and several folk are interested on Ebay.

I sold a Madone 5.2 on ebay before xmas. I advertised it first as a full bike and it did not meet my reserve. I then advertised it as frame and forks only and sold it for just short of what the maximum bid was for the full bike a week earlier. It went up over £300 in the last hour.

If you do ebay - don't put a reserve on it, hold your nerve if you have a high number of watchers as the fun starts in the last hour. the number of bids on mine in the last hour was mad.
Double check what the latest time you can close the auction is, put a disclaimer on to say advertised elsewhere and you reserve the right to end the auction if it is 'sold' elsewhere.
Whilst not fully in the spirit of the auction it covers you against selling your bike for a tenner if the bidding is thin on the ground.

That's a very good point about breaking it for parts - when you get up to smart big-brand frames, people are far more interested in self-build, hence the above example. Even used components seem to go for silly money, although less so with 9 speed stuff.
