Just got back from my ride today and downloaded the ride from the garmin but there is no graph or map info. There is 2 laps with distance & HR max/Av but no splits in the area below. Has anyone had this before?

Yes I had this, it is a POS :D Even worse once I connected it to pc and it wiped all data out !!
Call Garmion and they will say upgrade firware and also training centre software.
Mine switches off going over bumps, apparently another known problem.

You're not running Windows Vista are you?
I found out that my ride data was vanishing after a reboot - Garmin advised I right-click and "Run as administrator" before uploading information, to get round that one.

Lost a lot of map data when I transferred the data from my old PC to my new one.

Using Windows 2000. The info never made it to the computer, but the head unit never gave any indication that it wasn't working properly. Going to give Garmin a ring today. I've only used this for about 10 rides, I hope it isn't going to turn out to be unreliable.

Just been in touch with garmin. He told me that this is not a particularly common problem although he does come across it now and again. My edge is only 3 weeks old but the firmware was one of the earliest. Have now updated to the newest so hope this stops it happening again. You can do a master reset by holding "mode" while pressing "on/off" but this also resets all the user info and history.

Touch wood, i've had mine over 15 months now without any hardware problems, only problems i've had was some bugs in TC wiping out my data (not vista)

I expcet once you get over the teething problems it will be fine!

I wouldn't go without mine, if it dies i would buy another without hesitation (maybe the 705 instead though since it has better navigation on)

    MTB - Trek Fuel 80

    Agreed.
Apart from the occasional annoyances which have mostly been rectified quickly by a call to the helpful Garmin guys, it's been reliable, and I'd buy another if it wore out.

Went out yesterday after the firmware update and full reset. Everything seemed ok at first then it went pear shaped for a while, about 15km stretch in the middle of the ride. The grade was telling me that I was going down hill, when I was clearly goin up at about 6%. Then when I was going up a climb at about 12% it told me it was between 90% and 156%, then it sorted itself out and was ok for the rest of the ride. This all happened just after a hail and rain outburst. I will give it another go tomorrow but I suspect another call to Garmin is on the cards. At least it's a freephone number :) .

The altimeter works on atmospheric pressure, so the fact that you got a hailstorm does say that you were riding through some extreme shifts in air pressure. So it could well be that the unit is working correctly. As you say, give it another change...
