Has anyone ridden this on thin tyres?

I'm slightly concerned that certain sections of the route may not be suitable.

Any advice?

  • Racing bike with alu frame and 23mm tyres no problem. Can only remember a few areas where there were really bad stones but even then wasn't a major issue as long as take it a bit easy. Think the pics are still on the end-to-end site (we put previous adventures in as well www.arewethereyet2007.co.uk)

i did it in 28's - was ok.

there is a section on the first day just befre keswick which can be a bit muddy

the waskerly way from stanhope on is hard packed gravelly stuff - the 28's were ok - but i wouldn't go any thinner. (although one of the guys I was with had a scott hybrid on what I think were 25's)

i did it on a trek pilot 1.2 which was a nice light bike to do it on, but on hindsight slick(ish) shod MTB would have been a better choice.

No problem, we did it on a range of road bikes to tourers and hybrids with 23 to 28mm tyres.
