A group of us is planning to do this ride over the summer. Having bought the Sustrans map I am concerned that there may be sections of the route that are not suitable for thin road tyres.

Any advice?

There are some off road parts that would be better suited to ATB's, but the following website mentions that it can be done on any bike:

From personal experience, I would suggest a cyclo-cross bike or a hybrid with at least 32c tyres. Thick knobbly tyres are good for the muddy sections, but make you slow on the tarmac.

    Good luck.

I rode it on a tourer with 28's without any problems. On of the others in the group road it on a road bike with 23's and again did not have any issues.

    Enjoy the ride.
