Following the historical tradition on this forum- we need a Doctor Who thread to commemorate the new series!

Got to say- Adipose- cutest bad guys ever!

What do people think of Tate back as the sidekick?
And what about the mysterious Rose at the end- vanishing into the mist?

Anyone got any theories?

I do love Doctor Who but that episode was a bit... underwhelming. The Adipose looked rubbish (Doctor Who just doesn't do good CGI) and Catherine Tate was kinda annoying. The bit where they were miming to each other through the glass was funny though.

And it was cool to see Rose at the end. Hopefully this was just a duff episode, introducing Donna before we get into the meat of the series later on. The previous series-openers have all been weak ("Rose", "New Earth" and, er, that one with Martha and the rhinos on the moon). So I'm not too discouraged.

You haven't got an option for 'Don't give a f**k'!

Meh, you're all sad old geezers who take no pleasure in life.

Except Roger_This who has a picture of a medic possibly from medal of honour?
Which makes him a sad young geezer who takes no pleasure in real life :)

Haven't been following any of of the rumors/spoilers (of which I'm sure there must be many) but I vote for Davros. Long time no see (Colin Baker era I think?).

I love the way they have re-invented Dr. Who. Just as good as the original but completely different, a fresh take on the potential of the concept. Maybe even better than early Tom Baker with Philip Hinchcliffe as producer (obviously the best otherwise! ), although at the completely opposite end of the spectrum.

Didn't like Donna at first but she's growing on me.

P.S. On the subject of SF, anyone reading/read the new Iain M Banks?

No, Davros first appeared in 'Genesis of the Daleks' (I think) with Tom Baker (99% sure).

I'm not sure about Catherine Tate as the Doc's assistant; every character she plays just annoys me.

Yup, you're right there, but I was thinking about the last time he appeared. And I was wrong, I was forgetting "Rememberence of the Daleks" with Sylvester McCoy. I'd stopped watching Dr Who at that time because it had gone seriously down hill and I was young enough to think that I had become too old for it. :D

Matter? finished it a few weeks ago, enjoyable as ever from Iain M, I resorted to reading slowly to try to avoid finishing the book too quickly!

I like him in both his literary incarnations - the latest Iain Banks novel reminded me of The Crow Road, always a favourite.

I see. I stopped watching after Tom Baker.

Major bad guy: I think it'll probably be the Master's assistant, the vacant looking burd who picked up the Master's ring, after he was cremated, at the end of the last series. We don't know anything about her, so an episode explaining who and what she is, is probable.

Maybe she'll regenerate as a female Master played by Victoria Stillwell.

I'm nearly 2/3 of the way through myself and already dreading the 4 year wait for the next one. Someone needs to clone Mr Banks so that he can churn them out at the rate people read them.. :D

Did anyone else briefly wonder if the adipose boss / nanny person in the latest episode could be the master when she whipped out the sonic pen?

    Sea Devils?

Watched that series recently on DVD. Let nobody ever say that TV was better in the olden days.
