1) What is the difference between the SRAM PC68 chain and the SRAM PC850 chain?

2) Do you guys use a chain wear tool to check the wear or do you just use a ruler?

the 68 is an old chain and the 850 is low mid chain.

    and some times.

Chain wear tool is the easiest way to check a chain (no mistakes either), wished I had more often with my last chain, might have avoided a new cassette and chain rings (although it did give me an excuse to upgrade from a Deore to XT cassette  ).
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • Wear wise I just go by how much 'twist' you can get. If you are at (or even close to) 270 degrees and over then I'd get a new chain! I'm hanging onto mine ATM, and it is over the 270 mark... still works just about!
