Which way do you tape your bars?

Right anti. Makes the tape wind on tighter when on the drops, which is where I'll be putting the most weight on the bars. Up top, where it would be reversed, most of my weight's on the hoods.

EDIT: I've just realised I'm thinking about it backwards. Right clock is correct.

See this is what I don't get. When I'm on the drops, my right palm is to the right of the bars meaning I'm putting force into the clockwise direction, when the LBS taped up my bars right - anti they got messy and unravelled quickly - but the way I do it they don't, so surely right - anti is wrong?

You're right, I was picturing it wrong. On going downstairs and actually checking my bike, it is taped right clock. Whoops.

I make sure the adhesive is on the inside  Right clock, Left CounterClock starting at the end and working towards the centre of the bars always in the same direction.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Depends whether you live in the northern or southern hemisphere surely? Serously, right clockwise - that way the tape doesn't unwind, particularly when on the tops as you tend to push over-the-top.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

OK, I know I'm gonna get shouted at.....but......does it really matter?, no I'm not a troll, just curious. I'm not a novice where mechanics is concerned I've built several bikes and I always tape from the ends towards the tops but I've never consciously done it clockwise or anti clockwise. Also when you say right do you mean right as you look at the bike from the front or right as you sit on the bike?.

  • The Park tool website is inconsistent, as it shows both arrangements.

At first the graphics show the right-anticlockwise and left clockwise arrangement. But later on, once the handlebar tape colour changes to red, suddenly the left side is being taped anticlockwise.

I use the right-anticlockwise and left clockwise method. I spend a lot of time on the tops, and when pulling on the tops my hands will tend to tighten the tape. That's my logic, anyway. :?

EDIT: Incidentally, I think the chap on the Park tools website has made a pigs ear of the taping. It's all over the shop. All the gear (surgical gloves etc) and no idea!!
