Hard Ride

I finally managed to get back out on my bike today.
Thankfully the rain just stopped before i went out but the raods were very wet so i managed to see how much grip my new tyres would give. I can now see the difference between 38c and 23c tyres. On my old bike 38c i could go over manholes with no problems. Not so with 23c, the rear wheel keeps slding out and tries to join the front wheel
Anyway my damn GPS was playing up today so i could not follow my preplanned route nor my distance covered. This meant i rode too far and as such my ride home was very bad. My legs were gone. NO energy or strength whatsoever, also riding into a NW wind with some gusts ALL the way home did not help.
When i hooked up my GPS to my PC it said total distance 26.18 Miles, which is my furthest so far. I can usually comfortably ride for 20-22 miles with no problems.
Is it best to just increase slightly my distance each week by maybe 5-10% to get comfortable with going further or just get used to the 26 miles :?:

Cold and wet and windy here today: 32 miles was enough for me!
If for next outing weather a little more pleasant, why not aim at 25 (after all you've done a bit more in nasty conditions)? And repeat a few times. And then increase gradually (say +2 miles x3; then 30 x4......until you get to whatever distance/time you wish to achieve).
AND pat yourself on the back for going out at all today! Judging by turnout for CTC Easy/Local Authority Rural Ride I went on, not many folk did (we were the grand total of THREE!).d.j.

New tyres need scrubbing in, and are usually a bit skitty in the wet at first due to manufacturing chemicals on the tyre.
Wet drain covers are lethal......
Plus 5-10% is fine on increasing your rides0 -
I was planning to do another ride on Sunday morning but after the ride i decided against it. Thankfully i did because as 6.30 this morning (my normal ride time) it was snowing very heavy.
Can't wait until next Saturday for my next ride0 -

It's not the drain cover that bother me as i ride about 60 cm from the kerb. Its the LARGE utility covers that are almost 1 mtr wide by 2 mtrs long. They seem to be everywhere these days. You just cannot avoid them, unless you swerve in and out all the time.
I finally got my saddle height set right as well so my position was just perfect 8)0
