Anyone heard of this? I dont like my ISP doing this behind my back - will be cancelling my virgin media account when i move house...

    I've only just read it because of your post. It's very naughty, as just imagine if the data got in the wrong hands - identity theft potentially.

    It's a clever technology for targeted information, but all the data you send is collected and used - not sure if my ISP AOL is doing it yet ?

    BT, Virgin Media and Talk Talk are the current ones running it I think - so safe (for now!)

    I can confirm that my ISP 'Plusnet' don't use Phorm and they say they've no intention of doing so. Not sure how long that will last now that they're owned by BT :?

    How exactly does an ISP ask its customers about testing this software?

    There's a whole raft of things happening upstream from your computer - like all your movements on the web are logged with you ISP as much as your computer

    The free, ungovernable world of the internet that grew up fast in the nineties is behind us now - business will tame it, which is a great shame

    But if we think about it - the minute something is digitalised, it's trackable and can be a statistic for someone to use inappropriately to how we would wish

    A pencil and paper will the most secure method of comms very soon
