Shimano XT M770 Rear Mech

Ok, i'm a little confused. Been looking to upgrade to XT rear mech and noticed it is "Mega 9 compatible," does this mean that I cannont use it with my 8speed shifters and cassette?

    8 speed will work fine.

    Just remember that the 770 is a rapid-rise set, so the usual downshift lever will actually upshift. For the more usual setup, you'll need to purchase the 771/772 versions. I use the 772 shadow, and think it's a fantastic mech.
