Having buckled my wheel beyond saving on Sunday,I fitted a spare that I had lying around in the shed last night,it seems true in the sense that there is no left to right movement but there seems to be some front to rear movement almost as if the wheel is not completely round . I have checked the wheel and it doesnt seem to be out of shape, there is no play in the bearings and the tyre is not bulging anywhere.

Any ideas?

    wheel or tyre?

    is the tyre seated correctly?

Take it to your LBS, sounds like the vertical truing's out. They should be able to fix it without any problem if they're any good.

Ive just ordered a Mavic 719 rear wheel with DT Comp spokes on an XT hub from Merlin,I was going to go for a 717 but I have buckled 2 back wheels in 6 months so I think the extra strength of the 719 is worth the 60 gramm weight penalty !!

I will take the old rim to my LBS and get it trued as a spare .
