had a new bike recently (Saracen vortex limetid edition xc) but within a few months light riding the left (non-drive) side kept loosening up. the bikes still under guarentee from partridge cycles, so taking it up there in the next few days so they can have a look at it.
Ive seen previous posts on other forums were the exact same thing has happend and when the same crankset was replaced the same problem occoured once again.
Would the bottom bracket be damaged aswell as the crank arm?
do you think the bike shop will replaace the same crankset or a different one?

thanks

If it keeps coming lose then usually the crank arm interface is worn. The bottom bracket maybe be fine, as the axles are heat treated steel - very hard compared to the alu. They will probably replace just the left hand crank. The bolt should be checked regularly, but not overtightened, as repetaledly tightening it eventually buggers it up.
  • thats what ive been doing :? tightening it as i have been on the trails.

    it keeps coming loose

if the same thing happens again with the replacment crank, do u rekon they will put an alternative crankset on?

It shouldnt happen again if torqued correctly, and the bolt fixed with locktite.

If loose you have no option but to tighten it: my comment was more about people tightening it when already tight - they check it, and add a bit more, eventually knackering the tapers. If it starts to come loose again, stop riding, take it off, clean the axle and crank, refit and tighten with loctite.
  • cheers thanks!
