The London stage goes over my daily commute! Lets hope they run an amateur crit over the stage and that I can get to 2nd cat in time!

How's that the Tour of Britain? More like "The Tour of England and Scotland"

Each year I hope to see the race route dipping into the Welsh mountains, but each year I'm left disappointed. The London stage will hopefully be an improvement on the dull and poorly supported Crystal Palace Prologue of last year, but will be pretty meaningless. I'd just like to see daily coverage on tv somewhere this year.

Typcially, IIRC, each stage will be paid for/sponsored by a regional development agency - hence 1 stage per Eng region (& Scotland) & the rather dispersed parcours. I suspect the Welsh Assembly has spent wasy too much on the 2010 Ryder Cup to sponsor a stage of ToB. More's the pity

Glasgow - Dumfries looks a bit like last years final stage in reverse.

I was thinking that there's not one transfer less than a couple of hours drive.

Could do with helicopters taking the riders, and the rest of the teams crew following on...... doubt the budgets will stretch that far though!

Every year we see people complaining that the tour doesnt get to them - well its never gonna please all the people. And with authorities and Police getting less and less keen on racing on the roads - its amazing we get anything at all.

Add on that we have no big bucks sponsor and the tour has to go to cycling friendly councils - its a triumph against the odds. I'll go and check out the finish in Liverpool. Boost the numbers of spectators a bit. Just hope they finish the roadworks in time.

Re: Big bucks sponsor. I thought EON were pretty plugged in as a sponsor, likewise TFL and regional development agencies. But wasn't part of the point of not having a headline sponsor that it avoided it being subject to the whims of sponsors which was what did for the last incarnation of the TOB?
  • Looks like i'm in a good position to se 2 stages :D

Shame they haven't made them go up the chimney after about 100 miles though

Terry Mathews has funded most of the Ryder cup, its a wonder no one has tried to get money off hom for cycling, very supportive bloke.
Guess the TOB won't go to Wales due to lack of money.
The route does not look exciting really with lots of tranfers for riders.
Unless they get big sponsorship and a decent route sorted it will never be a top class race.
Maybe it did not go to Wales becuase of lack of hotels :D

Didnt they have a couple of stages in wales a couple of years back- i forget the name of the place but its a big golf course/hotel thing. Maybe they dont need to spend the money on bikes now ?

The route suggests the organisers are trying to do too much. The problem is that in trying to visit everywhere (except Wales, but remember Wales is a principality of England, so technically it's part of England), you end up with long transfers.

With two hours of driving after every stage, more as it's during the rush hour, the race risks scaring many of the big names who can pick their calendar of races, they'll take one look at the map and say no way. So if the race isn't the finished article, lets hope the organisers can get the other things right, like closed roads for the finish - no traffic cones please - and to hire some good PR so the race features in the media.

Can I just announce that I wil be putting in an appearance at this years race in London?

No, the fact Rock Racing have been invited and I'm hoping they'll bring the Rock Racing girls with them has nothing to do with it :P
