Running a single chainring
Hi
The front mech on my time trial bike seems to have got completely stuck in big ring position over the winter (I couldn't budge it with loads of hands on force). I'm only going to use the bike for flat events, so I've removed the front mech and cable. Will the chain stay on ok with me just using the big ring and having no front mech? I hope so otherwise I'll have to buy and fit a new one!
Ta.

Millar regretted it at the 2003 prologue...

Put the old mech back on, and set the limits so that it holds the chain on the chainring, then it won't matter if it moves or not, and it will keep the chain on should it try to escape.
Alternatively, you could go for a full on downhill MTB style chain guide, but that would be a bit silly.0 -
Damn - Andy beat me to it.0

A few other pros have been caught out like that too. Jan Ullric springs to mind as he threw his bike into the field beside the road when he dropped his chain during one TDF.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
