London - Glasgow

I'm trying to plan a route for a sponsered cylce between the UK offices of our company - this means travelling between London - Birmingham - Manchester - Belfast - Glasgow - Falkirk - Edinburgh (Ferry from Liverpool to Belfast and then back from Belfast to Troon).

Also I'm trying to get as much information about what kind of bike would be best, and looking at the potential of renting. So far I've only come acorss rental bikes that I've been told are't ideal for this extent of journey so I might try to get a larger retailer or manufacturer on board to 'donate' bikes etc.

There are 6 of us doing the trip and we will have car support but as you maybe guessed none of us are experience cyclists so any advice or help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Have a look at the Routes and Riding section on here and http://www.cycle-route.com/ and http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ With car support you wouldn't need to carry anything so I'd have thought 80 miles a day would be realistic. Any kind of audax or light touring bike would do you. A sortive bike mght get a bit tiring day after day. Won't your company pay for the bikes, or sign up to the cycletowork scheme so you can buy them cheaper yourself? Let me know when you're coming through Glasgow and I'll give you a wave!
