Makes a huge difference, doesn't it? I do twelve hour shifts so I don't see daylight at all for months on end.

Is it just me, or do you go faster in daylight?

Not only came home in the daylight yesterday, but I wore shorts !!!! It's a funny feeling exposing ones legs for the first time in months, kept looking down at my legs..... :D

I think it was January the last time I cycled home when it was properly dark, so I've been enjoying the light a lot. I do try to get away before 5, normally leaving at 4ish everyday.

I wore shorts too... I felt I had to in british summer time... awesome

Yes you do cycle faster in daylight, I think this stems from it being easier to see and be seen, so you can relax a little more and concentrate on going fast rather than avoiding death

  • Love the extended light hours.

But I feel I should be in a pub drinking outside 8)
  • It has been great riding home in the evenings this week along Torquay seafront.

You see this is the trouble with summer - not only are there men wearing lycra, but you can see the doing it. Cycling or otherwise, just no!

*shudder* they're back already, aren't they, Do you think they'd cycle nekkid if they could get away with it (fully shaved and waxed, natch)...

I really enjoy riding home in the light, especially as I really like that light you get around 5:30-6:00 in the evening just as the sun is starting to set and everything gets that orange tinge :-) The last 2 nights I've been riding back from Thames Ditton to Croydon and join the main road towards Morden Park after I turn off Grand Drive and it's been amazing, riding down the dual carriageway (which is usually deserted as the cars don't get round the corner as easily as I do - it's a right turn from a crossroad!) just enjoying the lovely weather!

I to got the shorts out again yesterday, had worn them a few weeks ago but then it got cold again, the next big step will be the short sleeved top :-) Roll on those lovely warm summer evenings!!!

Another "Is it just me, or..."

Is it just me, or are the car / van drivers more agressive / idiotic in daylight? I seem to be getting more run-ins with them per day since the clocks changed than I've been getting in a week over the winter.

Do they give us more patience out of sympathy when it's cold and raining, then forget it when the sun's out? :?

I always feel like I'm going quicker when it's dark, but only in summer.

Summer darkness is quick, winter darkness is slooooow.

I thought I was the only one who thought that!
  • No doubt about it I definitely go faster in the summer and I have got a spreadsheet to prove it with 5 year’s worth of data.

The graph averages out to a gentle curve with its peak at the start of August the slowest time for me is just after Christmas.

I don’t know why. I think that the air temperature and therefore density has a factor. Certainly the visibility of daylight helps there is one bend on a lane that gets covered with gravel from runoff in the dark I always go slow round it but when you can see I can go much faster.
I wonder if your body works better in the summer since in the gym I can get more power.

Last commute should have worn shorts but did not take them!.
Racing is rubbish you can\'t relax and enjoy it- because some bugger is always trying to get past.

I've thought that I went faster in darkness than in the light. It feels faster in th light but looking at the watch its usually slower!
Can't wait for the warm evenings though - that will make so much difference! Shorts and a t-shirt and not needing to worry about a jumper! Bliss . . .

One fine day in the middle of the night, two dead men got up to fight. Back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other.
